SCRIPTURE FOCUS
2 Corinthians 3:18 - But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (NKJV)
PRAYER FOCUS
When we look in a mirror, we generally want to see what we look like. However, in our Scripture focus for today, Paul wrote that we can behold as in a mirror the glory of the LORD! In this passage, Paul is referring to the account of Moses putting a veil over his face after spending 40 days and nights on the mountain with the LORD (Exodus 34:29-35). The skin of Moses’ face would shine because he had been before the LORD, speaking with Him. This was a privilege reserved at that time only for Moses. However, Paul wrote that we have access to come before the LORD through Jesus. Now we can behold the glory of the LORD, and as we do, we are transformed!
James expanded this concept of looking into the mirror of the Word of God. “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror (James 1:23 ESV).” The Bible is all about Jesus and what He has done for us. When you keep your focus on Jesus, you are transformed into His image from glory to glory.
RESPONSE
Most of us have made resolutions or have set goals to bring about some change in our lives. Statistically, most people do not have much success in keeping these resolutions or achieving these goals – primarily because they are relying upon their own efforts to produce change in their lives. However, the transformation Paul and James wrote about comes as a result of beholding the glory of the LORD as it is revealed in Jesus His Son and through His Word! Let’s continue in the Word and ask God to reveal His glory and transform us into the image of His Son Jesus!
