Daily Devo - Day 4

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

Matthew 7: 7-11 - “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! (ESV)

PRAYER FOCUS

On the first day of this Prayer Focus, we said that we have a good, good Father. What does the Bible say about what a good Father our God is? Jesus addressed this question in his Sermon on the Mount in the Scripture focus above. If an imperfect, earthly father knows how to give good gifts to his children, surely our Heavenly Father (who has already given us His best by giving us His Son) is able to give us good things also.

We have just completed the Christmas season in which parents have gone to great lengths to give their children good gifts. Think of the joy these parents experienced at their children’s delight in those presents. As Jesus said, “How much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Our Father takes great joy in answering the prayers of His children.

RESPONSE

Child of God, we can know in our hearts that God is a good, good Father. If we have a need, instead of worrying and fretting, we can just ask Him about it with confidence, believing that He hears and answers! We are not alone; we have a Heavenly Father who cares deeply about us. Let’s bring our requests to Him with confidence.
